"Adrian’s face was different in sleep. The grim lines smoothed out and the hard set of the jaw relaxed, leaving a boyish charm. Kali followed the line of his cheekbone lightly, tracing down his jaw and throat, stroking him gently, feeling the comforting rise-and-fall of his chest. It was good to see him at rest. He had a tendency to bottle stresses up until the force of them tore him apart. 

 Late at night, he would stumble back to their cabin, give her a peck on the cheek, and drag himself to the shower before collapsing into bed, already asleep when his head hit the pillow. Kali hugged him and placed her head on his shoulder, enjoying his clean scent. The tension was tearing him apart. He was a caged animal who needed to be free and she was determined to help him. "
